Lasting Friendships

In March 2021, we had 2 longhorn births. The first, Ker Deux (Dam is Keren), was born early March. The second, Tab Deux (Dam is Tabitha), was born late March. As they were the youngest of the herd (there were a few Brangus-Longhorn calves born November/December 2020), we noticed they tended to hang together. Tab Deux would check out our dog and Ker Deux was right behind her. Ker Deux would be at the mineral tub and voila, Tab Deux would be right there. It wasn’t just a coincidence. As we observed their behavior it was clear – these 2 were BFFs.

Over the months, where one went, the other followed. Yes they are half sisters, but was it that or was it the fact that they were about the same size and age? As they continue to grow and we observe their behavior we wonder if they will continue to be at each other’s side. Or will they drift apart as they become mothers one day. We will report back.
