Late Flowering Boneset
Of all the forbs of 2021, the most striking was Late Flowering Boneset. This is a very tall, upright plant with small white flowers that blossom late summer. I assumed this one would be toxic to livestock but alas I could find nothing that mentioned this. Late Flowering Boneset is touted as a great pollinator. Bees and butterflies seemed to flock to this pretty pollinator. Whenever we spotted it in the pasture, there always seemed to be a pair of two. It’s almost as if they were buddies enjoying the fresh air and scenery. Maybe it was just a coincidence.
I rooted for them to last as long as they could. They hung in there until about November when I started to see the white flowers blow away and the stems turned brown. We hope they will be back next year.
